A story of His faithfulness.
Veritas Academy opened in the autumn of 1996 with twenty students and three full-time teachers. Its founding families, teachers, and board members invested their time, resources, and talent into creating this special place that now serves over 300 students from all parts of Lancaster County and beyond. From the start, Veritas has aimed to provide students with a comprehensive education that emphasizes knowledge of God and His holiness, preparing them for faithful Christian service in any vocation or calling.

A Timeless Approach to Learning
Classical education is an effective approach to learning that has been around for centuries. It emphasizes language, literature, and history to develop critical thinking, communication, and analytical skills in students. The curriculum is designed to prepare students for success in any field and cultivate a love for learning and a deep understanding of the world. At its core, classical education values truth, goodness, and beauty, and prepares students to be responsible citizens in our changing world.

Long before Veritas Academy began, Dorothy Sayers, best known as a mystery writer and a friend of C. S. Lewis and J. R. R. Tolkien, penned “The Lost Tools of Learning,” arguing for a return to classical education.
The founder of the Logos School, Doug Wilson, published a book called Recovering the Lost Tools of Learning. In 1993, the Logos School held the first conference on classical Christian education. This conference led to the founding 22 charter-member schools of the Association of Classical Christian Schools (ACCS).
Veritas Academy was founded as one of the charter members of ACCS. Marlin and Laurie Detweiler were the Founders of the school, and Veritas opened at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Lancaster.
Veritas moves from St. Thomas Episcopal to the Community Building in Leola. Veritas leases most of the building from Upper Leacock Township.
Veritas Academy earns accreditation from the Association of Classical Christian Schools (ACCS).
Veritas Academy graduates its first class. This class comprises three students: Aaron Hoover, Jameson Detweiler, and Benjamin Long. (Note, Veritas had one graduate before this first class graduated, Corinne Teply).
After a long process that included going through the mascot names of every college in America, Veritas chose the Monarchs and the Lion as their mascot representing a rich history and a strong future.
Veritas adopts the mission statement as part of the Strategic Plan: “Cultivating loving, serving, thinking students through classical Christian education.”
Veritas Preschool at Highland opens. This partnership between Veritas Academy and Highland Presbyterian grows to be one of the best preschools in Lancaster County.
Veritas faces the challenge of Covid. After one week of closure, Veritas reopened as an online school. With the unanimous consent of the faculty and staff, Veritas reopened on the day after Labor Day for in-person learning, becoming one of the first schools in the county returning for in-person learning.
On April 27, Veritas purchased the Community Building and 12+ acres of property from Upper Leacock Township at a public auction in front of the school. Veritas closes on the building days before the official end of the 2016-2021 Strategic Plan.
Veritas’s K-12 enrollment surpasses 300, and our Preschool fills all 60 spots.
Training Young People For Years to Come.
For the last 27 years, Veritas Academy has been committed to training students to love Jesus, place their faith in Him, and follow Him with their whole heart. These efforts are radically counter-cultural and consistently produce graduates that stand out and bless their community, our country, and world. God has continued to bless Veritas Academy with growth. We now have more than 360 students and are flooded with new applications for next year. The fields are ripe for harvest.
